And so begins our first full week in lovely Nicaragua. We are ready to jump into things...and there are so many options available for us here. A girls´orphanage, a food distribution ministry, Young Life (Vida Joven), VBS at a church, a school for handicapped students, and lots of spontaneous ministry opportunities are some of the things we´ve done since arriving. I know I speak for all of us when I say we are extremely blessed for the people God has placed on our team and the people God has introduced to us since arriving in Nica. Brittany and myself feel especially grateful for the participants we are here with. Every one of them are so much fun to get to know. I love hearing about their backgrounds, their passions, their struggles and dreams for the future. God is obviously active in each of their lives. It is an honor to walk beside them this month.
On Saturday, our day off, we took a boat ride around the islands in Lake Nicaragua. At one point a monkey jumped on our boat! Our group had been sharing a coconut, but the monkey decided he would rather have it. It kept him on our boat longer, and we all enjoyed the randomness of the moment (and were possibly freaking out in the process!). What a cool surprise!
I love the colors here. Every house, every street, every bit of sidewalk is a new design and a unique color. Its hard to take it all in!!
Yesterday we walked around, praying for the city, and got to experience a huge parade in celebration of horses (nicas love horses!) Our team needed toilet paper so while we were out i bought about six rolls. Who knew how much attention i would attract by carrying thus said item around the city!? It was way too much fun.
I could keep talking, but this could quickly become extremely long. Just know that God has been good to us...He has brought us freedom, has taught us what true freedom is by letting us experience it ourselves. Now we know first hand the joy we proclaim to others. The fresh experience has been great. I´m so, so thankful for this month with these people in this place. I simply couldn´t ask for anything better. Oh that we could proclaim the joy and freedom found in the Lord to each person in Granada!
